Strength and Exercise Programs

Physiotherapists are specifically trained to use exercise prescription as treatment. When considering the right therapist for your child it is important to consider that Physiotherapists are specifically trained in the assessment and diagnosis of a range of conditions and disabilities. This includes the assessment of movement, gait and functional skills to ensure that personalised intervention addresses your child’s specific needs and goals. Physiotherapists have an in depth understanding of exercise prescription while considering diagnosis, safety, and injury prevention, ensuring your child is appropriately supported when starting and progressing an exercises therapy program.

Paediatric Hydrotherapy

Our one on one and small group hydrotherapy programs are perfect for developing movement skills and water safety in a fun and engaging environment.

Water provides a freedom of movement that is not always possible on land. This is due to the buoyancy effect of water which assists movement.

Hydrotherapy has many benefits, the positive effects of exercise result in increased stamina, endurance, fitness, movement control, improve lung function and the ability to participate.

The warm environment in a hydrotherapy pool can help when stretching muscles, improving mobility and reducing pain as well as building self esteem, water safety skills and confidence.

Fit Kids

We provide one on one and small group Fitness and Sport Skills for children of all abilities. Our fun, engaging programs can support your child’s development and maximise their ability to participate and play.

Fit Kids is a program that will support your child to enjoy movement and fitness, develop fundamental movement skills and increase activity levels during key developmental years.

Children with disability are move likely to become overweight as they transition into adulthood, it is important to participate in exercise from an early stage to develop skills and healthy habits that can be carried into adulthood and maximise their health.

Our programs are child centred and goal orientated with a focus on participation and fun. To support children and see them become healthy, happy and active teenagers and adults.

Your child will build confidence as they develop skills such as running, jumping, balance, ball passing, catching, fitness, kicking and throwing, while learning the fundamentals of a variety of sports.

This is available for one on one or small groups.

Teens Resistance Based Programs

Looking at increasing fitness, strength and movement confidence? Our program provides a safe way to start resistance based training for 12-16 year olds. Is your child interested in starting at the gym but unsure where to begin safely.

A comprehensive strength, movement and mobility program for all teens with or without disability, great for building confidence in accomplishing challenges and enhancing independence.

This one on one and group program combines the fundamentals of team work and group fitness in a fun, engaging and supportive environment with a focus on participation.

Our team-based and supportive approach to resistance training encourages all members to be part of a community and develop communication and social skills

This group provides a foundation for teens to develop their fitness, social skills and achieve goals in a fun and supportive environment.

Learn to ride

Learning to ride a bike is an important step in a child’s development, at Adaptive Physiotherapy and Performance we support your child to develop their skills and confidence.

As Physiotherapists we use evidence based assessment to develop a personalised program for your child's specific needs and level of ability.

We can assist with choosing the right bike for your child, organising and assisting with bike and trike trials, completing Assistive Technology applications, developing a program for home and provide training for families and carers.

Bike riding is a great skill and important for participation with family, friends and within the community, providing a form of safe enjoyable exercise, developing balance, strength and coordination skills.

Ball skills

Ball Skills is a fun, innovative, and engaging program that develops skills including rolling, throwing, catching, kicking, balance and hand-eye coordination with teaching the fundamentals of teamwork and communication.

Our programs are inclusive for all levels of ability designed to develop children's skills, confidence and motivation for sports-based activities.

The development of ball and play skills plays a key role in social interaction and performance at school and play.

Our programs focus on maximising your child’s strengths and developing essential play based skills in a progressive manner. We offer one on one and small group based programs to suit your needs.

All Abilities Development Program

A jammed packed tailored program for improving developing skills including balance, coordination, proprioception, movement patterns, motor skills, motor planning, communication and social skills.

Great for children with ASD (Autism), Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD), Global developmental delay, muscular dystrophy, cerebral palsy (CP), Down-Syndrome, neurological conditions, and spinal cord injuries.

We offer small group and personalised program’s to support your child to improve their life, play, sport, school ad social skills.

We support each individual child’s unique goals, utilising a whole body integrative approach we maximise neuroplasticity within a sensory rich environment to enhance learning.

Fine motor and social Skills:

Fine motor skills involve the use of the small muscles and control of the hand, wrist and fingers. These skills and muscles play a key role in daily function and enhance independence for activities such as feeding, writing, drawing, and any other task that involve the use of the hands and fingers. Developing these skills supports support a child’s ability to participate, confidence and self esteem

Lego Therapy

Lego Therapy is a fine motor, coordination and social development group for children and teenagers with Autism and other social-communication difficulties.

With a focus on turn-taking, sharing, listening, communicating and problem solving, this program can be great for preparing those essential motor skills for school and learning.

Our program can assist with children’s development, play and social skills. Developing fine motor skill efficiency through programs including Lego Therapy significantly increase the quality of movement as well as the speed of completing activities.

Ready Set Focus

Our Ready Set Focus group program supports your child’s academic learning, fitness, gross motor and fine motor skills.

This circuit based program enhances focus, transitions and task sequencing. Our program is evidence based, research has demonstrated that improvements in physical fitness can improve academic performance, focus and participation.

Physiotherapy led physical activity such as our Ready Set Focus program, can increase attention, memory, and reduce inappropriate behaviours.

Brain processes such as switching attention between tasks, and moving information from short- to long-term memory are necessary actions for learning and participating in school and sport, together we will support your child to develop these essential skills.

Textures and Sensory:

Our one on one and small group sensory programs support children’s development and enhances their ability to interact with the world around them.

Through the use of play based sensory therapy such as play-dough, sounds, smells, textures, colours, movement and balance we develop essential play and life skills.

Team orientated exercises in small groups encourages social skills while learning how to move, engaging the sensory system during play can heighten focus, memory and understanding and enhance neuroplasticity.
